We were Scottish Terrier owners exclusively. We'd decided on Scotties when we were reading about the breed. What convinced us was a story about a Scottie that liked to grab the drapes in its jaws and swing from them. One day it fell out of the second-story window while flying through the air with the greatest of ease. We'd have to get a dog like that.

We'd also been fans of cartoonist George Booth. Many of his New Yorker cartoons featured a Bull Terrier somewhere in the scene – usually looking pin-headed and flea-bitten. Who wouldn't love a dog like that?

Little did we know that Bullies not only have a unique look, but they're personalities and habits match their visage. She's a 50-pound lap dog that thinks nothing of passing wind in your face.

After seeing them at the Western Reserve Kennel Club dog shows and witnessing their antics, we decided we needed one. That's how we came to live in tolerance of Picard.
